Supreme Court dismisses Pervez Musharraf appeal plea against SHC decision on rejection of his nomination papers

ISLAMABAD, Jan 20 (Online): Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed appeal plea against Sindh High Court (SHC) decision regarding rejection of Pervez Musharraf nomination papers in general election-2013 declaring it infructuous .

The court has maintained in its orders Pervez Musharraf had filed his nomination papers for the general election 2013. The 2013 assembly tenure had ended in 2018. If Pervez Musharraf contests election again then he will be able to defend the objections raised on his nomination papers.

The appeal plea came up for hearing before a 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Umar Ata Bandial here Thursday.

Iqbal Hashmi counsel for Pervez Musharraf argued his client had filed his nomination papers in Karachi in general election-2013. The second appeal which has been filed by Pervez Musharraf against Peshawar High Court decision has not been fixed for hearing so far.

He further argued “my client is outside the country and no contact could be made with him so far. I pray the court the both appeals of my client be fixed for hearing at a time.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial while addressing counsel for Pervez Musharraf remarked “your today case has been dismissed. When the second case is fixed for hearing then it will be decided.
The court while directing to fix for hearing the second appeal plea of Pervez Musharraf before larger bench dismissed his appeal plea against SHC decision regarding rejection of his nomination papers for general election 2013 declaring it infructuous.

It may be mentioned that SHC and PHC had rejected Pervez Musharraf nomination papers and disqualified him from contesting general election 2013.

Pervez Musharraf had resorted to SC against rejection of his nomination papers.
