Peshawar, January 19 (Online): Provincial Minister for Irrigation Arshad Ayub Khan has decided to visit whole province to inspect the Canal Sanitation Campaign.
He directed to initiate departmental action against the officials showing negligence in departmental affairs.
He also issued instructions for formation of inspection committees for cleaning campaign and invitation to concerned agencies to inspect the ongoing work.
Arshad Ayub Khan said that the canal cleaning campaign should be completed on time at all cost so that the farmers do not face any difficulties.
The perpetrators of corruption and negligence have no place in the department but they will be made a symbol for others. Weekly meetings will be held to review the progress of the canal Sanitation Campaign.
He expressed these views in a meeting regarding the well-being campaign of the Irrigation Department and removal of encroachments from canals
The meeting was attended by Secretary Irrigation Nizamuddin, Deputy Secretary Admin, Deputy Secretary Technical and Chief Engineer of all regions. During the meeting, Provincial Minister Arshad Ayub Khan was briefed in detail about the ongoing campaign for sanitation and eradication of encroachments.
During the briefing, the provinciall minister was informed that in the clean-up campaign of Irrigation Department, canals and irrigation schemes are being cleaned under the control of the department. The total length of canals is 3758 km in which 2035 km came in South Region while 1723 km in North Region.
The number of irrigation schemes in the South Region is 87 while in the North Region it is 62. The first priority is cleaning, after which the repair process begins. However, the cost of the cleaning campaign has increased.
Departmental Monitoring Committees have been formed for the canal Sanitation Campaign which will monitor the canal Sanitation Campaign throughout the province.
The Provincial Minister for Irrigation invited the concerned agencies to inspect the campaign and decided to visit the province to inspect the cleaning campaign while directing strict departmental action against the negligent officials.
The Secretary Irrigation briefed the meeting on the progress made in the meetings with various departments while the Chief Engineers briefed the meeting regarding the canal Sanitation and Encroachment Campaign in their regions.
Provincial Minister for Irrigation Arshad Ayub Khan also directed to hold weekly review meetings regarding the canal Sanitation and Encroachment Campaign.
