Boat school set up at Taunsa barrage to educate fishermen

MUZAFFARGARH, Dec 02 (APP):Provincial Minister for Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education Raja Rashid Hafeez said the government had set up a boat school to provide education to fishermen living on bank of Indus river.

He expressed these views while talking to the media persons on the occasion of his visit to the Punjab Government’s boat school project set up at Taunsa barrage in Kot Addu tehsil.

Raja Rashid Hafeez said steps were needed at every level for promotion of knowledge and education among illiterate adults in the society.
He said the literacy department would continue to take steps to equip the illiterate society with education to face the present day problems.

Provincial Secretary Literacy Samira Samad who was accompanying the minister said, the first unique boat school would offer free of cost books to its students. She said a teacher was appointed at the adult center meant for boat education.

The school will train fishermen between the ages of 16 and 24 for two hours daily before or after the fishing. Local MPA and Parliamentary Secretary Ashraf Khan Rind said they would thank to Chief Minister Punjab for conceiving an idea of setting up school at such aneglected vicinity.

It would enable the community to manage their daily accounts efficiently.
During the visit, senior officials inspected the handicraft stalls made by the local women fishermen and appreciated their input to promote art of the local industry at broad spectrum.
