Vegetable exports increase 24% in 3 months: SBP

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (APP):The exports of vegetables products from the country witnessed an increase 24.87 percent during the first three months of financial year 2021-22 as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

Pakistan exported vegetables products worth $ 765.775 million during July-September (2021-22) against the exports of $ 613.227 million during July-September (2020-21), showing growth of 24.87 percent, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The food commodities that contributed in positive growth of vegetable exports included edible fruits and nuts, export of which grew from $90.650 million last year to US $ 108.321 million during the fiscal year under review, showing increase of 19.49 percent.

During the July-September (2021-22), the exports of cereals also increased by 18.93 percent, from US $ 423.707 million to US $ 503.954 million while the export of oil seeds and oleaginous fruits rose by 232.411 percent from US $15.988 million to US $ 53.146 million.

Similarly, the exports of vegetable planting materials rose to US $1.662 million from US $ 1.536 million whereas the exports of live trees and other plants increased from US $ 0.827 million to US $ 0.955 million.

On the other hand, the commodities that contributed in negative growth included coffee, tea, mate and spices declined from US $ 33.852 million last year to US $ 29.216 million during this year, showing negative growth of 13.69 percent.

During the period under review, the exports of products of milling industry decreased by 0.81 percent from US $ 5.676 million to US $ 5.630 million while the export of other vegetable sap and extracts also declined by 2.08 percent from US $ 9.717 million to $ 9.514 million, the data added.
