MIRPUR (AJK), Jun 16 :The Inland Revenue Department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government (South Zone) has served notices to various taxpayers defaulters including individuals, industrial and state government’s functionaries in the region directing them to deposit the amount of tax arrears, pending against them by the end of this fiscal yea.
The state government/semi govt departments, served the notices included Mirpur Development Authority, (MDA), Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), PWD, BISE Mangla Dam Housing Authority (MDHA), Kotli Development Authority (KDA), local government and Rural Development and others, Commissioner IRD ( South) Anser Ali Syed disclosed in an exclusive interview with APP here .
“It has been observed that there is considerable amount of tax arrears without litigation with Inland Revenue Circle and this outstanding tax amount is used to ascend by the close of every financial year.
Reportedly, the Circle Officers issue notices for recovery of tax arrears but these arrears are either stuck in litigation or most of cases are untraceable.
As a significant amount on account of income tax, sales, tax, professional tax and
Education cess etc is lying in arrears with different Inland Revenue Circles, so there was a dire need to launch a full-fledged recovery drive especially at this point in time, when the fiscal year is approaching towards its closure and every possible tax amount is beneficial for the State exchequer”, he said.
The Commissioner continued that Tax Recovery Wing had been constituted for the said purpose on provisional basis to the extent of District Mirpur to be effective till 30th June, 2025.
“The Wing which shall carry out the recovery exercise on case to case basis in liaison, collaboration and with the assistance of the concerned Circle In-charge Officer having jurisdiction over the case”, he said while responding to a question.
The Recovery Wing is headed by Muhammad Babar Khan, Assistant Commissioner, IRD and other effective field officers.
The concerned Inspector Inland Revenue of the relevant Circle and Excise Constables
are also members of Tax Recovery Wing.
The Tax Recovery Wing under alliance with the concerned DCIR/ACIR/IRO shall undertake following lines of action in recovery drive, according to the IRD Commissioner.
“The Wing shall sort Out the potential recovery cases after obtaining detailed arrears list from the concerned Circles. The Circle Officer shall first make the statutory noticing in all those genuine arrears cases which are existent and are not sub-judice before any court of law and where chances of tax recovery are strong and possible”, he said.
Syed Anser Ali, stated while elaborating the plan for recovery of the arrears that public notice had already been floated from the Department of Inland Revenue for Awareness of general public regarding deposit of outstanding tax arrears through
social media forums, wherein the last date of payment of arrears was 10th of June, 2025.
Wing with assistance of the concerned Officer shall after expiry of given date,
launch the coercive measures which include freezing of bank account /immovable property, disconnection of electricity connections and recovery through Land Revenue Act, imposition of further penalty and surcharge etc”, the Commissioner declared.
“All Circle In-charge Officers and constituents of Tax Recovery Wing have been directed to lend maximum of their energies in order to make the intended recovery drive complete success, as it is expected that exercise would entail in helping the realization of pivotal budgetary achievements by the end of current Financial Year”, the Commissioner concluded.
