Government wants to constitute MPT through legislation: AAG informs SC constitutional bench

ISLAMABAD, JAN 22 (ONLINE): During the hearing of the missing persons case, government has informed Supreme Court (SC) constitutional bench that Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal has been removed and Justice (Retd) Faqir Muhammad Khokhar has been appointed new chairman of Missing Persons Commission (MPC).

Additional Attorney General (AAG) has informed the court in this regard saying government has appointed Justice (Retd) Faqir Muhammad Khokhar as new chairman MPS in place of Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal. Government wants to constitute Missing Persons Tribunal (MPT) through legislation.

Justice Jamal Mandokhail remarked law is already in place. Making some one missing is crime. If someone has committed crime then he should be put to trial. If crime has not been committee then leave him.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked legislation will have to be enacted in connection with MPT.

AAG said Cabinet committee is working for legislation.

Justice Hassan Rizvi remarked Commission has made how many recoveries of missing persons so far. Do the recovered persons tell that where they were.

Registrar MPC said recovered persons do not tell where they were.

Justice Jamal Mandokhail remarked we hope government will resolve the problem. We cannot ask parliament for legislation.

Hearing of the case was adjourned for indefinite period.
