Journalists cannot be barred from covering jail hearing: IHC

ISLAMABAD, JAN 16 (ONLINE): Islamabad High Court (IHC) during the hearing of the petition against not allowing journalists for coverage of hearing in Adiala jail has directed Advocate General (AG) office to inform jail authorities about court’s orders.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb has remarked there is very clear order in PTI founder case you cannot stop journalists from covering jail hearing.

He gave these remarks during hearing of the case Thursday.

Counsel Muhammad Ali told that the court issued orders on August 22 for allowing journalist Saqib Bashir entry into jail. Journalist Saqib Bashir is being barred particularly from covering Adiala jail hearing. Jail authorities are not granting permission to him to enter into Adiala jail for covering hearing.

Journalist Saqib Bashir told that he went to Adial jail on January 13 but he was not allowed for covering the hearing. 6 to 7 journalists were allowed but he was not allowed to enter into jail for coverage of hearing.

Decision of 190 million pounds case is set to be announced on Friday. You should issue order for entry of Journalist Saqib Bashir in Adiala jail. Jail administration was told that high court’s orders are there too but he was stopped from entering into jail despite it.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb while moving to state counsel Abdul Rehman remarked he is court reporter. You should see him. We have already issued clear order.

The state counsel said I know him, He is my friend too. He is very honest reporter.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb said if journalists go there then the norms of fair trial will be met.
