Islamabad, January 10, 2025: The Higher Education Commission (HEC), through its National Curriculum Review Committee (NCRC), has updated the curricula for Sociology degree programmes. The two-day NCRC meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Anwar Alam of the University of Peshawar, was held at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
The Committee worked to develop comprehensive curricula for the Associate Degree, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Philosophy in Sociology, aligning them with national and international academic standards. These revisions reflect HEC’s commitment to fostering quality education and enhancing the relevance and rigor of degree programmes in Pakistan.
Mr. Muhammad Ali Baig, Deputy Director, HEC, and Secretary of the NCRC, inaugurated the meeting and welcomed distinguished academics from across the country. He outlined HEC’s ongoing initiatives to advance quality education, streamline the curriculum review process, and establish robust academic frameworks. He briefed the committee on the curriculum development methodology and emphasized the critical need for uniform academic standards in Sociology to empower Pakistan’s youth with the tools and expertise necessary to address complex social challenges.
The NCRC included representation from several higher education institutions across Pakistan, including Bahauddin Zakariya University, Forman Christian College University, Karakoram International University, Quaid-i-Azam University, Shah Abdul Latif University, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, The University of Agriculture Peshawar, The Women University Multan, University of Balochistan, University of Management & Technology, University of Peshawar, University of Sindh, University of Swat, and University of the Punjab.
The draft curricula, developed in accordance with HEC’s undergraduate and graduate education policies, incorporate the latest advancements and trends in the field of Sociology. Once reviewed and approved by HEC management, the finalized curricula will be shared with universities nationwide for implementation.
