JAAC sponsored street protest called off in AJK

MIRPUR ( AJK): December 08 : As AJK State government instantly entertained major demand of repealing Presidential Ordinance 2024, four-day shutter down-cum-wheel jam strike sponsored by Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) was called off across Azad Jammu Kashmir on Sunday after the AJK government principally agreed to phased acceptance of 17-point charter of demands tabled by the JAAC by immediately repealing the controversial ‘Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Ordinance 2024’.

The AJK government had, earlier, withdrawn the aforesaid Presidential Ordinance 2024, issuing formal notification late Saturday after the AJK President had advised the government to repeal the Ordinance forthwith.

The JAAC’s supreme leader and President Central Traders Organization Shoukat Nawaz Mir formally announced to end the street agitation and the scheduled January 23, 2025 long March protest programme following a 17 points written agreement the State government with the JAAC.

Both sides agreed that:

The Presidential Ordinance shall be repealed.

All prisoners will be released.

It has been agreed to revise the electricity tariff according to which the electricity tariff above 5kva has been fixed to the tariff of marriage halls and petrol pumps.

36 items of Household Power tariff to be entertained

FIRs filed from 09 May 2023 will be returned today.

Property tax notification will be done today.

Apart from 50 FIRs, the remaining FIRs will be disposed of within 30 days.

The reinstatement of the sacked civil servant Soheb Arif will be done within seven days.

The government job of Azhar Shaheed’s brother will be done in seven days.

Compensation of Rs 10 lakh per person will be paid to the injured within seven days.

During Mangala Dam Raising, the houses that come within the dam limits will be disconnected from their meter connections within one month.

The Azad Patan to Soan Road affected by Azad Patan Dam will be gotten rehabilitated by the Punjab Government.

Future procurement of electricity meters will be done through e-tendering.

Flour quality will be improved and allocation will be increased.

Funds will be released to local government ( CIVIC BODIES) representatives in AJK.

A committee will be formed for student union elections

The quality of flour will be improved and the allocation will be increased. Funds will be released to the municipal representatives. The Charter of Demand of the Joint Public Action Committee will be implemented through negotiations in 06 months.
