ISLAMABAD, March 30 (Online): Federal cabinet has accorded approval to constitute inquiry commission on the matter of letter from 6 judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Justice (Retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani will be chairman of inquiry commission.
Justice (Retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani was born on July 6, 1949. He did MA political science from FC college and later he acquired LLB degree from Punjab university.
He started his practice as lawyer from Multan and was appointed as Assistant Advocate General (AAG) Punjab during Gen Zia ul Haq regime. He was appointed as Additional advocate general Punjab in 1988. He was promoted as advocate general Punjab in 1993.
He was appointed as judge of Lahore High Court (LHC) on August 7, 1994 during second tenure of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. He was appointed as supreme court judge in July 2004 after 10 years.
Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani was part of the 7-memebr bench which had issued order on the occasion of imposition of emergency in the country by former military ruler on November 3, 2007 no judge of superior judiciary should take oath under PCO and bureaucracy should comply with no order of military dictator.
He took oath as chief justice of Pakistan on December 12, 2023 following the retirement of Justice of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
He served as chief justice of Pakistan for 7 months and was retired on July 5, 2014.
