I had checked that everything was okay at his company, and I knew we had enough money in our bank account for him to buy me at least a simple bunch of flowers. I wasn’t expecting anything extravagant. I just wanted a small gesture to show that he had thought about me. But as the day went on, I couldn’t help feeling disappointed.
I took a closer look at the shower gel and immediately recognized the fragrance. He knew perfectly well that I hated that particular scent, so I couldn’t understand why he had bought it for me. It felt as though he hadn’t put any thought into it at all. Overwhelmed with disappointment, I started crying and, without thinking twice, poured the entire bottle of gel down the toilet.
When my husband came home, he seemed unusually happy. He walked in with a big smile and immediately asked, “Did you find it?” I stared at him, completely confused, wondering what on earth he was talking about.
It turned out that he had hidden a ring inside the bottle cap as part of a surprise for me. He had planned a special way to give it to me, but my frustration had ruined the surprise before he could reveal it. And so, instead of getting down on one knee with a beautiful ring, he had to retrieve it from the toilet himself!
