A group of four best friends—Emma, Rachel, Lily, and Sophie—were having lunch together when the conversation drifted toward marriage.
Rachel sighed dramatically. “Girls, have you ever wondered what your future husband will be like?”
“Oh, absolutely,” said Emma. “I’ve already made a list.”
“A list?” asked Sophie.
“Yes,” Emma replied. “My future husband must be handsome, funny, rich, and able to cook.”
Lily laughed. “That sounds less like a husband and more like a luxury hotel.”
Rachel nodded. “My standards are simple. I want a man who listens to me.”
The other three burst out laughing.
“What?” Rachel protested.
“Because no man in history has ever survived listening to one story that starts with, ‘I’m not upset, but…’” said Sophie.
The waitress nearly dropped a tray laughing.
“So what do you want, Sophie?” asked Emma.
Sophie smiled. “I want a husband who looks at me the same way I look at pizza.”
“That’s true love,” Lily agreed.
Finally, the girls turned to Lily.
“Okay, Lily, what about you?”
Lily grinned mischievously.
“My future husband and I are going to have the perfect marriage.”
“How?” the others asked.
“Simple. Every time we have an argument, we’ll solve it like mature adults.”
The table went silent.
Rachel blinked. “And how exactly do mature adults solve arguments?”
Lily took a sip of coffee.
“We’ll both apologize.”
The others looked impressed.
“That’s actually very sensible,” Emma admitted.
Lily nodded.
“Yes. He’ll apologize for being wrong…”
The girls burst out laughing.
“And you’ll apologize for what?” Sophie asked.
Lily smiled.
“For reminding him that he was wrong.”
The entire restaurant erupted in laughter as the four friends raised their glasses.
“Here’s to our future husbands,” Rachel declared.
