‘Ernest’ Actor Bill Byrge Dies at 92

Bill Byrge, best known for his role as “Bobby” in the popular Ernest movie series, has died at the age of 92.

His cousin, Sharon Chapman, shared the news on Facebook, writing, “My cousin, Bill Byrge, passed away in the Nashville area today at 12 p.m. He was a beautiful soul who made people laugh without even trying.”

Chapman fondly recalled Byrge’s time in the Ernest films alongside actor Jim Varney. “He was the ‘Bobby’ character in several Ernest movies. I always teased him about being the ‘star’ of our family,” she added.

Chapman also reflected on Byrge’s humble beginnings, sharing that he was raised in poverty but was instilled with values of love, respect, and faith by his mother. “Heaven gained a sweet soul today. Love you, Billy. See you soon!” she concluded.
