‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Actor James Handy Murdered by Girlfriend’s Son as Chilling 911 Call Revealed: Cops
Veteran Hollywood actor James Handy, best known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick, Jumanji, and Logan, has tragically died after being fatally stabbed at his Los Angeles-area home. He was 81.
According to the Los Angeles PolicActe Department, Handy was found unconscious in the front yard of his Tarzana residence on the morning of June 3, suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have arrested 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, identified as the son of Handy’s girlfriend, in connection with the killing.
The shocking case took an even darker turn after investigators revealed details of a disturbing 911 call allegedly made by the suspect. According to police dispatch audio, the caller stated: “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.” Officers responding to the scene later encountered Gledhill, who reportedly told them he was “the one they were looking for.”
Police said the suspect lived at the residence along with his mother, who was Handy’s longtime partner. Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the attack, and the investigation remains ongoing. Gledhill was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with murder. Bail has been set at $2 million.
Handy enjoyed a career spanning nearly five decades in film and television. Known as one of Hollywood’s most reliable character actors, he appeared in dozens of popular productions, including Arachnophobia, The Rocketeer, Unbreakable, Jumanji, Logan, and Top Gun: Maverick. Television audiences also recognized him from appearances in series such as Alias, NYPD Blue, Law & Order, Criminal Minds, and NCIS: Los Angeles.
The actor’s sudden and violent death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with fans and colleagues mourning the loss of a respected performer whose work touched generations of moviegoers.
