The Harrison family’s butler, Alfred, had one serious weakness: he loved listening to private family conversations.
Whenever anyone whispered, Alfred would abandon the kitchen and quietly appear behind a curtain, holding an empty serving tray and pretending to dust it.
One evening, Mrs. Harrison whispered to her husband, “I think our daughter is secretly engaged.”
Alfred became so interested that he forgot the soup. It boiled over.
Then their son whispered, “Dad may be losing his job.”
Alfred forgot the roast, and it burned completely.
Finally, Grandpa whispered, “I’ve hidden my savings somewhere inside this house.”
Alfred became so excited that he forgot the apple pie, which turned black in the oven.
At dinner, the family stared at the watery soup, burned roast, and smoking pie.
Mr. Harrison asked angrily, “Alfred, what exactly have you been cooking all evening?”
Alfred bowed politely and replied:
“Nothing worth eating, sir—but I’ve prepared enough family gossip to serve for three generations!”😂
