The beginning is emotionally effective, but Harry’s realization comes too quickly.
To increase suspense:
* Add moments where Harry believes Sara will eventually come back.
* Let him initially feel angry rather than guilty.
* Have him discover just how much Sara handled only after several disastrous weeks.
* Show teachers calling, bills going unpaid, forgotten appointments, and exhausted children.
When he loses his job, make it feel like the culmination of many failures rather than a sudden event.
A stronger addition:
> One evening, after burning dinner for the third time that week, Harry sat alone at the kitchen table while the boys argued in the next room.

> For the first time in fifteen years, he noticed the stack of school forms on the counter, the dentist appointments on the calendar, the grocery lists, the birthday reminders, the endless details that had somehow always taken care of themselves.

This story has strong romantic appeal, but Jack appears almost too perfect too quickly.
To create more suspense:
* Let Ava hesitate before accepting Jack’s help.
* Give her moments where she wonders if she’s making another mistake.
* Create uncertainty about whether Jack’s kindness is genuine.
For example:
> More than once, Ava found herself wondering if she was simply replacing one fantasy with another.

> Brian had once seemed perfect too.

> Every time Jack smiled at her, a small voice whispered:

This creates tension and makes the eventual relationship feel more believable.
The airport confrontation at the end is excellent, but you can heighten it further.
Just before Nina slaps Brian:

>
> Slowly, realization dawned.

This builds anticipation before the slap.

This is the strongest revenge story because it contains mystery, betrayal, and a public payoff.
However, the reveal can be even more dramatic.
After Alice realizes Harris betrayed her, add a period where readers aren’t sure how she plans to fight back.
Something like:
> For days, Alice said nothing.
>
> She cooked dinner.
>
> She smiled when Harris came home.
>
> She even kissed him goodbye each morning.
>
> But every smile was part of a plan.
>
> Every conversation brought her one step closer to the truth she intended to expose.
This creates anticipation.
The farewell party should feel even more suspenseful.
Right before revealing Harris and Callie:
> Callie was smiling.
>
> Harris looked relaxed.
>
> They believed they had won.
>
> Neither noticed Alice’s hand resting calmly on the presentation remote.
>
> Neither realized their lives were about to change forever.
Then reveal the cake.
That small build-up makes the moment far more satisfying.

After Alice’s ending, consider adding a final concluding paragraph:

>
