The Confessions, The Code Word, and The Unexpected Revelations

There was an old priest who had grown weary of hearing the same confession over and over again. No matter how many sermons he delivered about honesty and temptation, it seemed that half the people in his parish kept returning to the confessional with the same guilty secret — adultery.

One Sunday, standing firmly in the pulpit with a look of exhaustion on his face, he finally declared, “If I hear one more person confess to adultery, I’ll quit!”

The entire parish was shocked. They loved their old priest and couldn’t imagine losing him. So, after much discussion, they came up with a secret code word. Anyone who had committed adultery would simply say they had “fallen.”

The arrangement worked perfectly. The old priest was satisfied, the parishioners had a discreet way to confess their sins, and nobody had to worry about driving their beloved priest away. For years, everything went smoothly — until the priest finally passed away at a ripe old age.

About a week after the new priest arrived, he visited the mayor of the town. But instead of greeting him warmly, the new priest looked deeply troubled.

The priest said, “You have to do something about the sidewalks in town. They are becoming a serious problem. Every time someone comes into the confessional, they keep telling me they have fallen.”

The mayor immediately burst into laughter, realizing that no one had explained the secret code word to the new priest. Before he could say anything, the priest pointed an accusing finger at him and said, “I don’t know what you’re laughing about. Your wife fell three times this week!”

A minister, a priest, and a rabbi went for a hike together on a very hot day.

They had been walking for hours under the blazing sun, and by the time they reached a small lake with a sandy beach, they were exhausted and covered in sweat. Since the area was completely secluded, they decided there was no harm in leaving their clothes on a large log nearby and taking a refreshing swim.

They ran down the beach, jumped into the cool water, and enjoyed a peaceful swim away from the heat. Feeling completely refreshed, they started walking back toward the spot where they had left their clothes.

But just as they reached the middle of the beach, a group of ladies from town suddenly appeared.

There was no time to reach their clothes. The minister and the priest quickly covered themselves and ran toward the bushes for safety. The rabbi, however, covered his face instead and followed them.

After the ladies had passed and the three men returned to get dressed, the minister and the priest looked at the rabbi with confusion.

“Why did you cover your face instead of covering yourself?” they asked.

The rabbi calmly replied, “I don’t know about you two, but in my congregation, it’s my face they would recognize first.”

A very distinguished lady was on a plane returning from Switzerland.

During the flight, she found herself seated beside a kind and respectable priest. After a while, she leaned toward him and politely asked, “Excuse me, Father, could I ask you a favor?”

“Of course, my child,” the priest replied. “What can I do for you?”

She lowered her voice and said, “I have a small problem. While I was in Switzerland, I bought myself a new, very sophisticated hair remover gadget. It cost me an enormous amount of money, and I’m afraid I may have exceeded the customs declaration limits. I’m worried they will confiscate it when we arrive. Would you be willing to hide it under your cassock?”

The priest hesitated for a moment.

“Of course I could help you, my child,” he said, “but you must understand that I cannot lie if I am questioned.”

The woman smiled confidently and said, “Father, you have such an honest face. I am certain they will never ask you any questions.”

So she handed him the device, and the priest carefully hid it beneath his clothing.

When the aircraft arrived at its destination, the priest approached customs. The officer looked at him and politely asked, “Father, do you have anything to declare?”

The priest calmly replied, “From the top of my head to my sash, I have nothing to declare, my son.”

The customs officer found the answer unusual and raised an eyebrow.

“And from the sash down, what do you have?”

The priest paused for a moment before answering with complete seriousness, “From the sash down, I have a marvelous little instrument designed for use by women, but which has never been used.”

The customs officer stared at him for a second, then suddenly burst into laughter.

“Go ahead, Father,” he said, waving him through. “Next!”
