At the hospital’s annual dinner, Dr. Jack Miller decided to impress his wife, Susan, a veteran nurse who had spent twenty years correcting his mistakes without getting any of the credit.
He leaned across the table and whispered, “Honey, tonight I’m taking you home, pouring you some wine, and reminding you why you married me.”
Susan looked delighted.
“You’ve finally hired a housekeeper?”
“No,” Jack said. “I’m talking about romance. No interruptions. No distractions. Just you, me, and a little personal attention.”
Susan raised an eyebrow.
“Wonderful. Should I expect you at the scheduled time, or forty-five minutes later like your patients?”
The nurses at the table began laughing.
Jack straightened his tie. “You joke, but I’ve still got the stamina of a man half my age.”
“Then give it back,” Susan said. “He probably needs it.”
Even the chief surgeon choked on his drink.
Determined to recover, Jack took her hand.
“Seriously, sweetheart. Tonight, I’m going to make your heart race.”
Susan smiled. “You already did that this morning.”
“I did?”
“Yes. You said you’d put your own laundry away.”
Jack sighed. “Is there anything I can say tonight that you won’t turn into a joke?”
“Of course,” Susan replied. “Try something bold. Something exciting. Something I’ve never heard you say before.”
Jack leaned close and whispered, “Tell me what you want, and I’ll do absolutely anything.”
Susan’s expression softened. She put her lips close to his ear.
“Anything?”
“Anything.”
She smiled.
“Then, for once in your life, answer your own call light.”😂
