The Scottish Peace Treaty That Lasted Three Minutes

A Scottish family gathered every Sunday for a big roast dinner.

There was Grandpa, who quietly enjoyed his newspaper, the grandchildren chasing each other around the table, and Great-Grandmother Agnes, who had one favorite hobby…

Competing with her daughter-in-law, Fiona.

If Fiona baked a pie, Agnes would say, “That’s lovely, dear. Mine only won the village fair twice.”

If Fiona polished the silver, Agnes would smile and whisper, “Back in my day, you could see your future in our teaspoons.”

If Fiona knitted a sweater, Agnes would casually add, “Very nice. I finished one like that… before breakfast.”

The family had seen this contest so many times that they started placing friendly bets on who would get the last word.

One Sunday, Grandpa announced, “Right, today there will be no arguing. We’re having a peaceful family meal.”

Everyone agreed.

For nearly twenty minutes, there wasn’t a single disagreement.

Then Fiona proudly served a beautiful homemade cake.

Agnes took one bite, nodded thoughtfully, and said,

“It’s delicious, dear… though I do wonder how it would’ve tasted if you’d followed the recipe.”

The room fell silent.

Fiona smiled sweetly, poured Agnes another cup of tea, and replied,

“Oh, I did follow the recipe… I just skipped the chapter called ‘How to Criticize Everyone Else’s Baking.’

Even Grandpa burst out laughing.

Agnes couldn’t help but laugh too and raised her teacup.

“Fair enough,” she said. “Next Sunday, I’ll bring the cake… and you can bring the comeback!”

Punchline: From that day on, the family didn’t argue over dessert—they argued over who had the sharper wit! 😂🏴
