A truck driver stopped at a roadside diner for lunch and ordered a cheeseburger, a cup of coffee, and a slice of apple pie. He settled into a booth, tired from the long hours on the highway, and was just about to take his first bite when three rough-looking bikers walked into the diner.
Before the driver could react, one of the bikers swaggered over, grabbed his cheeseburger, and took a huge bite from it. The truck driver simply stared at him for a moment, saying nothing.
The second biker picked up the driver’s coffee and drank it down in several gulps. The third one reached over, grabbed the slice of apple pie, and wolfed it down as if it had been ordered for him.
The driver still didn’t say a word. He calmly picked up his wallet, paid the waitress for his meal, and walked out of the diner without even looking back. The three bikers watched him leave, clearly amused by how easily they had intimidated him.
As the waitress approached their table, one of the motorcyclists laughed and growled, “He ain’t much of a man, is he?”
The waitress glanced toward the window, watching the truck driver climb into his enormous 18-wheeler. Then she turned back to the bikers with a perfectly straight face.
“He’s not much of a driver, either,” she replied.
The bikers frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
The waitress pointed toward the parking lot.
“He just backed his 18-wheeler over three motorcycles.”
The laughter stopped instantly.
The bikers rushed outside, and the waitress calmly returned to wiping the counter, already knowing there was nothing they could do about it now.
================================
A husband went to the sheriff’s department to report that his wife was missing.
“My wife is missing,” he told the sergeant anxiously. “She went shopping yesterday and hasn’t come home.”
The sergeant immediately began taking notes. “All right, sir. We’ll need some information. What is her height?”
The husband paused. “Gee, I’m not sure. A little over five feet tall, I suppose.”
The sergeant frowned slightly but continued. “Weight?”
“Don’t know exactly. She’s not slim, but she’s not really fat, either.”
“Color of her eyes?”
The husband hesitated. “I’ve honestly never noticed.”
The sergeant looked up at him.
“Color of her hair?”
The husband thought for a moment. “It changes a couple of times a year. Maybe dark brown. I’m not completely sure.”
The sergeant sighed quietly and kept writing. “What was she wearing when she left?”
“Could have been a skirt or shorts. I don’t remember exactly.”
The sergeant stared at him for a second before asking, “What kind of car did she go in?”
“She went in my truck.”
The sergeant nodded. “All right. What kind of truck was it?”
Suddenly, the husband’s expression changed. His eyes lit up as though the question had finally been easy.
“Oh, I know everything about that.”
He leaned forward and began describing it in astonishing detail.
“It’s a brand-new 2015 Ford F-150 King Ranch 4X4 with EcoBoost 5.0L engine, special ordered with a manual transmission. It has a custom matching white cover for the bed, custom leather seats, and ‘Bubba’ floor mats. It has the trailering package with a gold hitch, a DVD system with navigation, a 21-channel CB radio, six cup holders, and four power outlets.”
The sergeant slowly lowered his pen.
The husband continued without missing a beat.
“I also had special alloy wheels put on it, with off-road Michelins. My wife put a small scratch on the driver’s door, but I never got around to having it repaired.”
He suddenly stopped talking.
His voice became shaky.
His eyes filled with tears.
The sergeant, realizing the man was genuinely distressed, reached across the desk and put a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“Don’t worry, buddy,” he said gently. “We’ll find your truck.”
The husband nodded, choking back a sob.
“And once we find it,” the sergeant added, “we’ll see if your wife happens to be with it.”
