I was about six years old when our entire family gathered around the dinner table. In the middle of the chatter, laughter, and clinking of plates, I suddenly announced, “Grandma! Should I tell everyone what you and Grandpa do when you’re both in your room?”
The entire table went silent.
Grandma froze with her spoon halfway to her mouth, and Grandpa slowly lowered his glass, glancing at me with wide, worried eyes. For a few seconds, nobody moved. The adults exchanged nervous looks, and I couldn’t understand why everyone suddenly seemed so serious.
I had no idea I had just created a moment of panic. In my young mind, I was about to reveal something exciting—a secret I thought the whole family would love to hear. I sat up proudly, ready to share what I believed was the most amazing discovery.
With all the confidence in the world, I finally said, “She makes him practice card tricks!”
For a heartbeat, everyone stared at me.

Whenever someone brought up the story, Grandma would laugh and say she had never been so frightened by a six-year-old’s announcement in her life. Grandpa would simply smile and remind everyone that his “secret training sessions” had finally paid off.
