A husband returned home drunk late at night. His wife opened the door and looked at him silently, already knowing from his unsteady steps and the smell of alcohol that he had been drinking again. He lowered his head and said, “Sorry honey.
I couldn’t stop finishing a bottle whose brand name was the same as yours!”
The next morning, the wife calmly served breakfast. The man took one bite and immediately frowned.
“Oh honey, there’s so much salt in this dish…” he complained.
The wife looked at him with a straight face and replied, “Sorry honey. I couldn’t stop myself from adding more salt since the brand name was the same as yours.”
The man suddenly became quiet, realizing that his own joke had come back to him in a way he never expected. For a moment, neither of them spoke. Sometimes, a small reply can reveal more than a long argument ever could.
Bob went over to his friend Joe’s house one evening and was amazed at how warmly Joe treated his wife.
He often told her how attractive she was, complimented her cooking, listened carefully when she spoke, and showered her with hugs and kisses. Their home seemed filled with happiness and affection.
“Gee,” Bob remarked later, “you really make a big fuss over your wife.”
Joe smiled and said, “I started appreciating her more about six months ago. I realized that love isn’t just something you feel; it’s something you show every day.”
“It has completely revived our marriage, and we couldn’t be happier.”
Inspired by Joe’s words, Bob hurried home that night. He walked through the door, hugged his wife tightly, told her how much he loved her, and said he wanted to hear all about her day.
But instead of smiling, she suddenly burst into tears.
“Honey,” Bob said, surprised, “what’s the matter?”
“This has been the worst day,” she replied. “This morning Billy fell off his bike and broke his ankle. Then the washing machine stopped working. And now, to top it all off, you come home drunk!”
Bob stood there speechless. He had hoped to bring happiness into the house, but he had forgotten that kindness means little if it arrives after carelessness has already caused pain.
John and Jessica were on their way home from a bar one night when John got pulled over by the police.
The officer walked up to the car and said, “Sir, you were stopped because your tail light is burned out.”
John immediately apologized. “I’m very sorry, officer. I didn’t realize it was out. I’ll get it fixed right away.”
Just then, Jessica turned toward the officer and said, “I knew this would happen. I told him two days ago to get that light fixed.”
The officer looked at John, then asked for his license. After checking it, he raised an eyebrow.
“Sir, your license has expired.”
Again, John apologized. “I didn’t realize it had expired. I’ll take care of it first thing in the morning.”
Before the officer could respond, Jessica added, “I told you a week ago that the state sent you a letter telling you your license had expired.”
By this time, John was clearly irritated. He felt embarrassed that his wife kept correcting him in front of the officer.
“Jessica, shut your mouth!” he shouted.
The officer then leaned slightly toward Jessica and asked, “Does your husband always talk to you like that?”
Jessica calmly looked at the officer and replied, “Not always…”
She paused for a moment, letting the silence grow.
“Only when he’s drunk!”
The officer tried not to laugh, while John sat quietly, realizing that sometimes the truth has a way of arriving at the perfect moment.
