A man went to the hospital to visit his mother-in-law, who was in critical condition.
On his way home, his wife called him, her voice trembling with worry.
“So… how’s my mom doing?” she asked.
He replied calmly, “Oh, she’s doing great! Honestly, she looks fantastic. The doctors say she’ll live for many more years. In fact, she’ll be discharged next week… and she’s coming to live with us. Permanently.”
There was a long pause.
“Wait… what?” his wife said, confused. “That doesn’t make any sense. Yesterday the doctors said she only had a few days left!”
He sighed and said, “Well, I don’t know about yesterday… but today, when I got there, the doctor told me we should prepare for the worst.”
