Iconic high street chain to close 17 shops with ‘everything must go’ sales launched

An iconic high street retailer is set to close 17 stores in the coming months, with one shutting its doors in just a few days.

WHSmith, which operates over 1,100 stores, has been gradually announcing closures in recent months. Since 2023, the retailer has already closed numerous locations, with more scheduled between now and May.

In November, WHSmith confirmed plans to close up to 20 stores annually over the next three years. However, the chain also intends to open 90 new locations at different sites during the same period.

Two stores closed their doors just yesterday following significant closing-down sales. The WHSmith branch on Bournemouth High Street offered discounts of up to 50% before permanently shutting on January 18.

The announcement left many locals disheartened, with many expressing their disappointment when the news broke.
