Big Retailer Closing 500 Fabric And Craft Stores In 49 States

Crafters across 49 states may want to stock up on supplies as fabric and craft retailer Joann prepares to shut down more than half of its U.S. stores.

In a statement to Media on Wednesday, the company announced plans to close approximately 500 of its 850 locations nationwide. This decision follows Joann’s second bankruptcy filing in less than a year, after initially filing and going private in March 2024.

Joann stated that the closures are part of an effort to “right-size its store footprint.”

“This was an incredibly difficult decision, given the significant impact on our Team Members, customers, and the communities we serve,” the statement read. “Following a thorough evaluation of store performance and long-term strategic goals, we identified which locations will continue operating as usual.”
