Beloved & Popular Music Personality Dead At 54

Renowned music producer and record executive Irv Gotti has reportedly passed away at the age of 54.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, his death was confirmed on Wednesday, February 5, following speculation that he had suffered another stroke and brain bleed.

Lyor Cohen, global head of music at YouTube and Google, paid tribute in a statement to The Post, saying, “Def Jam has lost one of its most creative soldiers. He was hip-hop, and when we were on bended knee, he brought the heat and saved us. He comes from a tight, beautiful family from Queens, and it was an honor to know him. Irv, you will be missed.”

Born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., Gotti co-founded Murder Inc. Records in 1998 as an imprint of Def Jam Recordings. He earned production credits working with hip-hop icons such as Jay-Z, DMX, Kanye West, Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Eve, and more.

News of his passing first surfaced on social media, with AllHipHop reporting that he was pronounced dead Wednesday morning. However, details surrounding his final moments remain undisclosed.

Gotti had struggled with health issues, including diabetes. In 2023, he opened up about his battle with the disease.
