A statement announcing her death read: “With deep sadness, we share the passing of singer, songwriter, and actress Marianne Faithfull. Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the presence of her loving family. She will be greatly missed.”

Faithfull rose to fame in the 1960s with her hit song As Tears Go By. Alongside her music career, she appeared in films such as The Girl on a Motorcycle and various theatre productions.

In the 1970s, she withdrew from the spotlight due to vocal damage and struggles with drug addiction. She made a comeback in 1979 with her critically acclaimed album Broken English, though her battle with substance abuse continued.
