Lynn Hamilton, the beloved actress recognized for her memorable roles in the classic television series Sanford and Son and The Waltons, has passed away at the age of 95.
Her death was confirmed by her former manager and publicist, Rev. Calvin Carson, in a heartfelt statement shared on Facebook and Instagram. According to Carson, Hamilton died peacefully on June 19, surrounded by her grandchildren, loved ones, and caregivers.
“With profound gratitude and admiration, we celebrate the extraordinary life of iconic actress Alzenia ‘Lynn’ Hamilton-Jenkins,” Carson wrote. “Her remarkable legacy continues to uplift and inspire. Spanning more than five decades, her career left a lasting impact on the world of entertainment as a model and as a stage, film, and television actress.”
Hamilton rose to fame playing Donna Harris, a nurse and the girlfriend of Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx), on NBC’s Sanford and Son, which debuted in 1972. The groundbreaking sitcom also starred Demond Wilson and LaWanda Page.
In 1973, Hamilton joined The Waltons on CBS, portraying Verdie Grant, a character she would reprise in several reunion films, including A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion and A Walton Easter.
Hamilton’s enduring presence on screen and her contribution to American television remain widely admired.
