TRAGIC NEWS: Popular & Beloved Actor Passed Away At Age Of 92


British actor Michael McStay, who was best known for his roles in Doctor Who and No Hiding Place, has died. He was 92.

A representative for the late actor announced his death in a statement on Facebook.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Michael McStay, an actor of the highest standing, talented writer and family man,” the statement read. “It was a privilege to have known Mike. RIP.”

McStay “died quietly in his sleep just an hour after sharing a locket Sunday lunch with my brother and I” on May 11, his son Darius McStay shared with PEOPLE. The actor died of heart failure.

McStay’s rise to fame began with the role of Sergeant Perryman on the ITV detective series No Hiding Place, on which he appeared in over 80 episodes.

He also starred in two episodes of BBC’s Doctor Who, playing the role of Derek Moberley.

Despite only appearing for a brief time, McStay shared his appreciation for the beloved show’s fans during a May 2024 interview on the Doctor Who: Toby Hadoke’s Time Travels podcast.

“The sort of fans that you get on a show like Doctor Who are your friends. They want to like you, they want to like the show. It’s a great feeling,” he said at the time. “It’s a great bunch of people to be a part of in a way.”

The late star also landed roles in films including Robbery in 1967 and The Stick Up in 1977.

On the small screen, he also appeared on The Black Arrow, Park Ranger, Spy at Evening, EastEnders and Ted and Alice.

He was also in consideration to replace George Lazenby as James Bond before Sean Connery reprised the role, “but not before enjoying a day being congratulated by the national press, who had mistakenly thought he had been awarded the part,” according to his obituary.

During the podcast appearance, McStay reflected on having staying power in the entertainment industry, saying, “You have to want to do it. I’ve always wanted to do it. And I had some good friends along the way that helped me.”

McStay’s final on-camera appearance came in ITV soap Coronation Street, on which he took over the role of Alan Hoyle from John Woodvine in 2011. The role allowed him to reunite with his friend Johnny Briggs,
McStay is survived by his wife, actress Jennifer Clulow, and their two sons.
