LOS ANGELES: Ellen Weston, the versatile actress, writer and producer whose career spanned more than six decades across television, Broadway and film, has died at the age of 87. Weston passed away few weeks back, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Her death was confirmed by her longtime friend and manager, Susan Zachary.

Weston earned recognition for her memorable performances in classic television series including Get Smart, The Young and the Restless, Guiding Light, Another World, and S.W.A.T. She portrayed Suzanne Thurston on The Young and the Restless from 1979 to 1981 and earlier played Robin Fletcher on Guiding Light, establishing herself as a familiar face in daytime television.

Born in New York City on April 19, 1939, Weston studied at the Performing Arts High School before attending Hofstra University, New York University and Hunter College. She began her professional career on Broadway in the early 1960s before transitioning to television, where she appeared in numerous hit series including Bewitched, Bonanza, Wonder Woman, and The Bob Newhart Show.

Beyond acting, Weston built an impressive second career behind the scenes. She became a respected television writer and producer, contributing to several made-for-TV films, including And the Beat Goes On: The Sonny and Cher Story. In 2003, she returned to Guiding Light as its head writer, further cementing her influence on daytime television.

Weston also had a passion for music, collaborating with singer Lesley Gore as a songwriter on multiple albums during the 1970s, showcasing her creative talents beyond television and film.

In a heartfelt tribute, Susan Zachary described Weston as “beyond a loyal friend” who offered wisdom, compassion and unwavering support to those around her. According to Zachary, Weston remained energetic and active throughout her later years, continuing to dance and even taking pottery classes shortly before her passing.

Ellen Weston is survived by her son, Jon Weston. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a performer, storyteller and creative force whose contributions to television entertainment will be remembered for generations.
