Her words hit me like a slap, but I refused to believe her. We were still early in our relationship, and I trusted him completely. He seemed charming, thoughtful, even vulnerable. Why would she lie?<\/p>\n

But over time, I started to notice patterns\u2014the \u201cforgotten wallet,\u201d the \u201cblocked card,\u201d the \u201cbad investment opportunity.\u201d He always had an excuse, and I always found myself reaching for my purse.<\/p>\n
