The moment I did, I heard a sharp gasp behind me.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"616\" data-end=\"680\">A woman\u2019s voice\u2014strained and panicked\u2014said, \u201cI can\u2019t breathe!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"682\" data-end=\"766\">Startled but irritated, I snapped back without thinking:<br data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"741\" \/>\u201cThen fly first class!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"1034\">There was a silence heavy enough to make even the engine noise fade into the background. She didn\u2019t respond, and I convinced myself she was just being dramatic. I plugged in my headphones and tried to sleep, but guilt started creeping in with every passing minute.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1208\">When we landed, a flight attendant approached me before I could stand.
