A little old lady was walking down the street, dragging two large plastic garbage bags behind her. One of the bags was ripped, and every now and then a crisp $20 bill slipped out and fluttered onto the sidewalk.<\/p>\n
A police officer noticed and hurried over.
\u201cMa\u2019am, there are twenty-dollar bills falling out of your bag.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, really? Darn it!\u201d the old woman exclaimed. \u201cI\u2019d better go back and see if I can find them. Thank you for telling me, officer.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, not so fast,\u201d he said, raising an eyebrow. \u201cWhere did all this money come from? You didn\u2019t steal it, did you?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOh no, no, nothing like that,\u201d she replied quickly. \u201cYou see, my backyard is right next to the football stadium parking lot. On game days, a lot of fans get a little too comfortable and use a knot hole in my fence instead of a restroom\u2014right over my flower garden. It used to make me furious. Ruined the plants, you know.<\/p>\n
Then one day I thought, \u2018Why not make the best of it?\u2019 So now, on game days, I stand quietly behind the fence near that knot hole with my hedge clippers. Whenever some fellow gets careless and pokes through, I grab hold and say, \u2018All right, buddy. Twenty dollars, or it gets trimmed.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
The officer burst out laughing. \u201cWell, that certainly sounds like justice in its own strange way. Good luck to you, ma\u2019am. Oh, and what\u2019s in the other bag?\u201d<\/p>\n
