\u201cCome on,\u201d he whispers. \u201cThey\u2019re all asleep; no one will notice.\u201d<\/p>\n
She folds her arms, whispering sharply, \u201cNo way. It\u2019s way too risky!\u201d<\/p>\n
Desperate now, he pleads, \u201cPlease, I love you so much!\u201d<\/p>\n
Before she can reply, the porch light flicks on.
A deep, calm voice cuts through the night:
\u201cWell, young man,\u201d her father says from the doorway, \u201cwhy don\u2019t you two take this conversation inside? Maybe your mother and I can help you figure out the logistics.\u201d<\/p>\n
The boy turns pale. The girl buries her face in her hands.<\/p>\n
As the father steps forward, arms crossed, he adds dryly,
\u201cAnd just so you know, the entire neighborhood heard you. Next time, maybe try texting.\u201d<\/p>\n
The young man stammers an apology and bolts for his car as the girl\u2019s father calls out,
\u201cDrive safe! And keep your declarations of love under 50 decibels!\u201d<\/p>\n
Inside, the girl can\u2019t decide whether to laugh or hide forever.
