After half a year of trying, I had finally seen those two pink lines. My heart nearly exploded when I found out I was pregnant. Every fiber of me wanted to run to Ben immediately, but I held it in, waiting until I was safely along so I could surprise him in the most meaningful way possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven two months is too soon, Becca,\u201d my friend Tiffany warned. \u201cBut\u2026 I love that you want it to be an anniversary present. It\u2019s perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, honey.\u201d She reached for my hand, but I pulled back. \u201cI only ever wanted the best for you. Someone more suitable. Someone like Charlie.\u201d<\/p>\n

The name made my stomach turn. Charlie\u2014her best friend\u2019s grandson. Arrogant, smug, the boy she\u2019d tried to push on me since I was sixteen. I thought she\u2019d finally given up when I married Ben.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saved you,\u201d she said simply. \u201cYou\u2019ll understand one day.\u201d<\/p>\n

I stared at her, the woman I had trusted my entire life, and all I felt was disgust.<\/p>\n
