It was a busy Monday evening when Libby walked into the caf\u00e9, ordered a regular coffee, and settled into the seat overlooking New York City\u2019s busy streets.<\/p>\n
Terrible, terrible day it had been for her. With the long meetings and projects with tight deadlines, she was hoping to find some time to relax before returning home to her yoga meditation and more work before bed.<\/p>\n

\nLibby put down her iPad, sipped some hot coffee, and took a look around. That\u2019s when she cast a disgusting glance at the table next to her, where a baby was staring at her with big eyes and apple puree all over his mouth\u2026<\/p>\n
Libby assumed the decent-looking man, who was talking on his phone while his baby giggled at a stranger, was a single father. Why else would he be in formal wear at a caf\u00e9 at 7 p.m., feeding a child, his office bag beside him?<\/p>\n
\u201cDisgusting!\u201d Libby muttered under her breath before looking away.<\/p>\n
Libby hated babies. She despised how cranky and needy of affection they were. But it seemed like the baby she called disgusting loved her.<\/p>\n

\nAs Libby turned away, the baby began to cry, and his tears flowed down his cheeks like a waterfall.<\/p>\n

\u201cMa\u2019am,\u201d said the waitress apologetically. \u201cAs you can see, all the tables inside are currently full, and the only open slots are on the terrace, which may be too cold for the baby. I\u2019ll speak with them\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
The waitress approached the man\u2019s table, said something to him, and Libby noticed the man hang up the phone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, if she has a problem, she should be the one to move,\u201d Libby overheard the man saying. \u201cIt\u2019s not even my fault, but I apologize for the inconvenience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Libby couldn\u2019t contain her anger as she overheard that. She walked over to the man\u2019s table and told him to get out. That\u2019s when the crying child threw some apple puree on Libby\u2019s outfit, which enraged her further.<\/p>\n
\u201cJason, boy!\u201d cried the man. \u201cThat\u2019s not right. Calm down!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHey, look, I\u2019m sorry about that,\u201d said the man to Libby. \u201cI can make it up to you, and\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s ridiculous!\u201d exclaimed Libby. \u201cOf both you and the child! I\u2019m done with this place,\u201d she said as she stormed out of the caf\u00e9, glaring angrily at the man and the waitress.<\/p>\n
Libby never visited the caf\u00e9 again, and she hoped to never run into that man and his child again. She despised him as much as she despised that baby.<\/p>\n
A year went by, and Libby found herself a handsome man at the company where she worked. Trevor was a mere contract employee, but he was charming, polite, confident, and everything Libby had ever wanted in a man. He fell for her first, but she fell harder, and soon after, she found out she was pregnant with his child.<\/p>\n
When her baby bump became visible, Libby announced the pregnancy news to her parents, but the older couple didn\u2019t appreciate it.<\/p>\n

Libby was shocked. She had expected her parents would be happy, but quite the opposite happened. Because Libby was adamant about marrying Trevor, both of them were kicked out of the company\u2014they worked for her father\u2019s company\u2014and Libby\u2019s parents cut her off from the will.<\/p>\n
A few months later, Libby moved into Trevor\u2019s studio apartment because she couldn\u2019t afford her rent anymore. Trevor was working for a small private firm then, and he supported her and their child.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry,\u201d Libby said. \u201cIf I leave her alone, she\u2019ll be a nuisance to others. Please, understand.\u201d<\/p>\n
The woman sighed and eventually allowed her.<\/p>\n
Libby walked into the room, unaware of what awaited her. When she saw the interviewer\u2019s face, she froze in shock. He was none other than the man she\u2019d been rude to months ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cDo I know you?\u201d He raised a brow as he asked Libby to take a seat. \u201cYou seem familiar.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOh well,\u201d said Libby shyly. \u201cWe met at the caf\u00e9, and your baby was crying\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAh!\u201d he smiled. \u201cSo we know each other. Please take a seat. Also, I hope you know that babies are not permitted at work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before Libby would say anything, Eve started crying. And she just wouldn\u2019t stop.<\/p>\n
Libby was embarrassed.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh no, I\u2019m so sorry. I can\u2019t leave Eve home alone, and it\u2019s just\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMay I?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

Libby nodded because she didn\u2019t have any other option. She handed Eve over to the man, and the baby girl stopped crying as soon as he began playing with her.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe seems to like you,\u201d Libby said. \u201cThat\u2019s not like her!\u201d<\/p>\n
