I stiffened at his words. Kyra never mentioned Denis to me, let alone someone from Chicago.<\/p>\n
And \u201cold pal\u201d? That felt odd.<\/p>\n
\u201cNice to meet you, Denis,\u201d I replied cautiously. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think I know you. We\u2019ve never met before, have we?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, not really,\u201d Denis admitted. \u201cI just got to Manhattan recently. I heard about\u2026\u201d His voice trailed off as his gaze shifted to the boys. \u201cMay I see them? If you don\u2019t mind?\u201d<\/p>\n
Something about his request made me uncomfortable. I tightened my grip on the stroller handle and forced a polite smile.<\/p>\n
