Prince William said he found it extremely difficult to focus on school and normal life as he opened up about his childhood grief.<\/p>\n

The Prince of Wales, 42, this week paid a visit to Child Bereavement UK \u2014 a children\u2019s bereavement charity in Widnes, England, of which he is a patron.<\/p>\n

The future king spoke about losing his mother, the late Princess Diana, at the young age of 15. She died in a car crash in August 1997 at the age of 36\u00a0while fleeing photographers in Paris.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes the hardest thing about grief is finding the words for how you actually feel,\u201d William said, according to\u00a0the Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s crucial for those first few years, particularly, [that] you have support like this\u2026 It\u2019s got you in your practice, how to help yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mind gets focused on one thing, doesn\u2019t it? It\u2019s very difficult to do school and normal life,\u201d he went on.<\/p>\n

William became patron of the children\u2019s charity \u2014 founded by his late mother\u2019s friend Julia Samuel \u2014 in 2009. His late mother previously served as patron up until her untimely death.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat my mother recognized back then \u2014 and what I understand now \u2014 is that grief is the most painful experience that any child or parent can endure,\u201d William added.<\/p>\n

The charity, which is in its 30th year of service, prides itself in supporting youngsters who are experiencing grief in their lives.<\/p>\n

During his visit, William spoke with several teenagers who have leaned on the charity for support in previous years.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows exactly the situation we\u2019ve been in \u2014 he\u2019s been in the same situation around our age as well. He really understood,\u201d Rebecca, 17, said of the prince,\u00a0according to\u00a0The Times<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cHe seemed comfortable to be able to speak to us about stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Daniel said the future king \u201cwas quite down to earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe charity thrives on fundraising and donations. It can\u2019t offer support without them. You need people like the prince to raise awareness of what they do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Last year, William\u2019s estranged brother, Prince Harry,\u00a0opened up about losing their mother<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Recalling the tragedy, Harry, who was 12 years old at the time, said \u201cthings become easier\u201d when children can talk about grief.<\/p>\n

The Duke of Sussex, 40, stressed the importance of letting children speak freely about their emotions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the hardest thing, especially for kids, I think, which is, \u2018I don\u2019t want to talk about it because it will make me sad, but once realizing if I do talk about it, and I\u2019m celebrating their life, then actually, things become easier as opposed to this, \u2018I am just not going to talk about it and that\u2019s best form of coping,\u2019 when in fact it\u2019s not,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
