{"id":6590,"date":"2025-01-29T02:01:42","date_gmt":"2025-01-28T21:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/us\/?p=6590"},"modified":"2025-01-29T02:01:42","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T21:01:42","slug":"hollywood-golden-age-actress-passed-away-today-at-age-of-96","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/us\/hollywood-golden-age-actress-passed-away-today-at-age-of-96\/","title":{"rendered":"Hollywood Golden Age Actress Passed Away Today At Age Of 96"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hollywood golden age actress died on January 17 at a hospital in Burbank, California from pneumonia, following respiratory failure.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignright is-type-wp-embed is-provider-news-fews wp-block-embed-news-fews\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Born Josephine Angela Sorbello in Quakertown, Pennsylvania in March 1928, the late performer appeared in films throughout her career including Paradise, Hawaiian Style in 1966, Attack of the Giant Leeches in 1959 and in TV shows including Death Valley Days, The Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke.<\/p>\n<p>She worked with Presley on two features eight years apart \u2013 first in King Creole, in which she portrayed his sister Mimi, and then in Paradise, Hawaiian Style, where she played the role of Betty.<\/p>\n<p>In the obituary that was published online in commemoration of Shepard, it says that King Creole was Presley\u2019s \u2018favourite\u2019 movie that he worked on, and Shepard recalled how the late singer \u2018wished\u2019 to have had a sibling like her.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018She later recalled in interviews that she got along well with the icon; they would go to lunch together, and he said he wished he had a sister like her,\u2019 the obituary reads.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3659\" src=\"https:\/\/newsfews.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jan-Shepard2.webp\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsfews.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jan-Shepard2.webp 448w, https:\/\/newsfews.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Jan-Shepard2-300x169.webp 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"252\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Following her death, her son Brandon Boyle told The Hollywood Reporter: \u2018She was a good one and will be dearly missed.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignright is-type-wp-embed is-provider-news-fews wp-block-embed-news-fews\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Her obituary includes an anecdote that she told Elvis Australia about what it was like to meet the Blue Suede Shoes singer for the first time, when they were inadvertently wearing matching colours.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I looked at him and he looked at me and we started to laugh. His jacket was the identical material and color of my slacks,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He looked at me and he said, \u201cHoney, I\u2019m either going to have to give you my jacket or you\u2019re going to have to give me your pants\u201d [laughing]. That was my first meeting with Elvis.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Shepard starred in several TV westerns in her career, her first being the anthology series Death Valley Days in 1954.<br \/>\nAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, Shepard was given her part in King Crole thanks to her friend Dolores Hart, who played Presley\u2019s love interest Nellie in the movie.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignright is-type-wp-embed is-provider-news-fews wp-block-embed-news-fews\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>When Hart threw Shepard a surprise birthday party, Presley reportedly said: \u2018I had to come, she\u2019s my sister. I wouldn\u2019t miss her birthday party.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Shepard met her husband, actor Ray Boyle (also known as Dirk London) in 1951.<\/p>\n<p>The couple were married in 1954 and their son Brandon was born in 1959.<\/p>\n<p>Shepard and Boyle were married for 67 years until Boyle\u2019s death in 2022.
