Helene Hahn Lloyd, Former Disney Executive and DreamWorks Founding Leader, Dies at 78

Helene Hahn Lloyd, the veteran Hollywood executive who helped shape Disney’s resurgence and became one of the first executives recruited to build DreamWorks SKG, has died at 78.

Lloyd died on October 24 in Park City, Utah. Her management team said she died peacefully in her sleep, according to Deadline’s report. Yahoo News Malaysia

Her career spanned Paramount Pictures, Walt Disney Studios and DreamWorks, placing her among the most senior women in the film industry during a period when relatively few held such positions. She also became known for mentoring women pursuing careers in entertainment management. thewrap.com

Born on July 13, 1948, in Westbury, New York, Lloyd graduated from Hofstra University in 1970 before moving to Los Angeles. She took temporary work at Paramount while studying law and earned her degree from Loyola Law School in 1975.

She subsequently returned to Paramount, where she rose to senior vice president and established a reputation as a skilled negotiator. Her legal background became the foundation for a career handling the business decisions behind major studio operations. Yahoo News Malaysia

At Disney, Lloyd served as executive vice president and worked closely with Jeffrey Katzenberg during the company’s revival in the 1980s and 1990s. Her contributions included helping develop Disney’s landmark partnership with Pixar. Yahoo News Malaysia

In 1994, she joined the original leadership team at DreamWorks SKG, founded by Steven Spielberg, Katzenberg and David Geffen. She eventually served as chief operating officer, helping establish the company’s business operations during its formative years. thewrap.com

After leaving DreamWorks in 2004, Lloyd settled in Park City, where skiing became a central part of her life. Her husband of more than two decades, Charles “Chuck” Lloyd Jr., died in July.

The family has requested donations to U.S. Ski & Snowboard in their memory, honoring the couple’s enthusiasm for the sport and their support for future generations of athletes. Yahoo News Malaysia
