Angela Stribling, Trailblazing BET Host and Radio Voice, Dies at 58

Angela Stribling, a television personality who helped shape BET’s early programming and became a familiar voice to Washington, D.C., radio listeners, has died at 58.

Stribling died at home on September 26 after a two-year battle with brain cancer, her husband, Ken Washington, said in a statement shared by WHUR 96.3 FM. Washington and Stribling’s sister, Darlene, were at her side. (WHUR 96.3 FM)

A Familiar Face on BET

Stribling spent four years hosting Screen Scene, BET’s entertainment news program. She later helped launch BET Jazz, presenting shows including Jazz Central, where she worked alongside Ramsey Lewis and Lou Rawls. Her television career also included work in Baltimore. (WHUR 96.3 FM)

A Beloved Voice on Radio

At WHUR, Stribling became the first woman to host the station’s Original Quiet Storm, a late-night format closely associated with Washington’s music culture. She went on to connect with listeners through Pillow Talk with Angela, a program built around music, relationships and conversation. (WHUR 96.3 FM)

Stribling was also a classically trained jazz singer who performed internationally and shared stages with artists including Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan. Her career spanned television, radio, live music and voice work. (WHUR 96.3 FM)

Remembered for Her Warmth

WHUR General Manager Sean Plater remembered Stribling for both her talent and the way she made people feel welcome. The station said her kindness, laugh and willingness to encourage others left a lasting impression on colleagues and listeners. (WHUR 96.3 FM)

A celebration of Stribling’s life will be held in Washington, D.C. The date and venue have yet to be announced. (WHUR 96.3 FM)
