Stop & Shop has officially closed 32 stores.<\/p>\n
In July, the regional grocery store announced they planned to close 32 location across Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York by Nov. 2. A spokesperson confirmed that as of Oct. 31, all of the locations have now closed their doors.<\/p>\n
The company \u201cevaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand, \u201d said Gordon Reid, President, Stop & Shop in a press release.<\/p>\n
Unsold items from the stores have been donated.
\n\u201cThe impacted stores are working with their existing local partners to ensure that unsold products are donated to those in need,\u201d Stop & Shop spokesperson Stephanie Cunha said in an email. \u201cFor items that their local hunger-relief partner may not pick up, i.e. pet food, our stores have worked to identify local animal shelters that may pick up those items.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last month, the company announced strategies to win back customers, including lowering prices and creating easier to use saving programs.<\/p>\n
