Many people believe that every person\u2019s life was planned before they were even born. There is no escape from fate, so to speak. Whether this is true or not, we are unlikely to know for sure. But one thing is certain: sometimes really strange coincidences happen in our lives\u2014moments so unlikely that they leave us questioning whether chance alone could have arranged them. In this article, we\u2019ve put together stories that could easily become the basis for thrilling movies, proving that reality can be far stranger than fiction.<\/p>\n
1.
\nMy grandpa, my dad, and I were in line waiting to get into a baseball game (big throng funneling through the ticket check gate). As we get to the front of the line, the person ahead of us is having trouble with their ticket. The scanner guy was saying how this guy\u2019s ticket was fake, it had already been scanned. My dad was like, \u201cHey, we have an extra ticket, Charlie!\u201d Charlie was like, \u201cOh great, thanks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Charlie, the guy who was having trouble with his ticket, is one of my dad\u2019s oldest friends. Who happened to be in the same city as the 3 of us. Who happened to be going to the same baseball game. Who happened to be in line right in front of us. Who happened to have been sold a bad ticket.<\/p>\n
So, the four of us start walking towards our seats, and nobody is acknowledging how crazy all this was. I kept being like, \u201cGuys, this is insane! Out of tens of thousands of people, what are the odds?\u201d And everyone was like, \u201cYeah. So anyone want some peanuts?\u201d To this day, I\u2019m still the only one who seems properly stunned by it.<\/p>\n
2.
\nI lived in the countryside and commuted to the city to study. One day I was returning home and noticed a key on the ground. It was on the side of the road. An ordinary, unremarkable key, similar to mine. Guess whose key it was?<\/p>\n
Mine.<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t even realize I had lost it until I reached into my pocket a few minutes later. Somehow, on a route traveled by countless people every day, I happened to spot my own missing key lying in the dirt before anyone else touched it. The odds still baffle me.<\/p>\n
3.
\nI had some money on one of my bank cards, saved for a rainy day. At some point, I realized I forgot its pin number. I went to the ATM, dialed 2 wrong pins taken from the depths of consciousness, didn\u2019t try a third time and put the useless plastic on the shelf. There was no commission for card maintenance, while reissuing the card was very expensive.<\/p>\n
And then, about 6 months later, I went to visit my friends. I approach the entrance, call them, they tell me the code from the intercom and at this moment I remembered the pin of that card, because it matched the first digits of the intercom code. Since then, I have never bothered remembering the pin code again, because I can always call my friends.<\/p>\n
The funny thing is that I had spent half a year trying to remember it. Then, the second I stopped caring, the answer appeared out of nowhere.<\/p>\n
4.
\nMy birth parents had me extremely young, split before I was born and moved apart. They met again 15 years or so later and got back together. While they were apart, my birth father had a son with another woman.<\/p>\n
One day I am taking the train to the city with my girlfriend (now wife) and buddy (still buddy) to hit a museum and see a concert. We get off the train and a woman comes up to me asking questions about my birthday and other identifying pieces of information and when I confirm I was adopted, she kind of freaks and asks me to stay there while she goes to get who she believes is my father.<\/p>\n
Guy comes over and is basically me in 20 years. All details check out, I call my parents to verify some things and it was all legit. Turns out they were in seats facing us on the train, and I look very much like the son my birth father had, to the point that she had to ask me. Wildest day of my life.<\/p>\n
What started as an ordinary train ride ended with me accidentally meeting my biological father in a crowded city, completely by chance. If someone had written it into a screenplay, I would have called it unrealistic.<\/p>\n
5.
\nMy mother makes jewelry. Sometimes she has to ship a piece to another city. My mom usually sends everything by post.<\/p>\n
Once, a customer said that her acquaintance would be passing through our city and could pick up the jewelry. And at the moment of a call with the said acquaintance, it turns out that it is\u2026my mother\u2019s mother (my grandmother). They hadn\u2019t communicated for the last 7 years. I thought this could only happen in TV shows.<\/p>\n
The silence between them had lasted nearly a decade, yet a random business arrangement managed to reconnect their paths in a way neither of them could have planned.<\/p>\n
6.
\nI\u2019m watching a show online. There\u2019s a sketch where a dude\u2019s watching a sports game live, and all of a sudden, his mom calls him on Skype. And then, seriously, my mom calls me on Skype. And this is despite the fact that she calls me very rarely, once every 2 months, probably.<\/p>\n
For a split second, I honestly wondered if the universe was playing some kind of joke on me. The timing was so perfect that I nearly laughed before answering.<\/p>\n
7.
\nIt so happened that my girlfriend cheated on me. We broke up peacefully. Coincidentally, I tattooed her name a week before the breakup. So\u2026I\u2019ve met 5 Diane already.<\/p>\n
Each time, I explained that I had a dream about a girl with this name. And now I\u2019ve found you! It\u2019s a cheap scam, but it works. It\u2019s a shame to cover up a tattoo like this.<\/p>\n
The strange part is that every time I think the tattoo can\u2019t possibly help me again, another Diane somehow appears in my life. At this point, it feels less like coincidence and more like a running joke from fate.<\/p>\n

\nI got laid off from a corporate job. That day I called a friend 250 miles away asking if he knew of any work that was totally different from what I was doing.<\/p>\n
He tells me that he just got off the phone with his neighbor, who was asking him if he knew anyone that would want to buy his business. My friend tells his neighbor, \u201cI know one guy, but he\u2019s not going to want to leave his corporate job,\u201d he was talking about me.<\/p>\n
The timing couldn\u2019t have been more unbelievable. Just hours earlier, I would have turned the opportunity down without a second thought. Instead, I bought the business and have owned it for 7 years now. Losing my job felt like a disaster at the time. Looking back, it was the event that changed my life for the better.<\/p>\n
9.
\nOnce on the Fourth of July, our dog Svejk escaped the yard and ran for it during the fireworks. He was missing for a couple of days, during which we plastered signs all over town with his photo.<\/p>\n
A family called, thinking they had our dog.<\/p>\n
We drove over there (about 3 miles away, across a busy highway and on the other side of a major commercial district), and sure enough, it was him. They said they almost considered keeping him, as he was so sweet, and they had lost their dog Norman on the same night.<\/p>\n
The next day, an old woman 2 doors down the street from us called, having seen our flyer and thinking she may have seen our dog in her yard (also a black lab). We told her we already had Svejk back, but she called again and insisted we come over (she was a little senile).<\/p>\n
We walked over, and on a whim, called \u201cNorman?\u201d He immediately came running droolingly over and followed us home. We drove him the 3 miles back across town, and sure enough, it was him. We\u2019ve always wondered if the 2 dogs met each other during their respective epic journeys.<\/p>\n
The whole thing felt like some bizarre canine exchange program. We found our dog because another family had lost theirs\u2014and then helped that family find theirs because of a flyer about ours.<\/p>\n
10.
\nWhen I was in the early stages of dating my spouse, I brought her to my hometown to meet my parents. While looking at an old family photo album, she pointed to a picture and said, \u201cHow do you know this man?\u201d I answered, \u201cThat\u2019s my uncle,\u201d and she said, \u201cNo, he\u2019s my uncle!\u201d<\/p>\n
Turns out her mother\u2019s sister married my mother\u2019s brother.<\/p>\n
For a few stunned seconds, everyone in the room just stared at one another, trying to work out the family tree. Thankfully, we weren\u2019t secretly related\u2014but the coincidence was close enough to leave us speechless.<\/p>\n
11.
\nAbout 5 or 6 years ago, I was in Hawaii with my family. The weather can change quickly there, so although the sun was shining, it soon began to rain. We got some mixed rain and sunshine.<\/p>\n
My dad commented on it, \u201cWow, sunny rain!\u201d A nearby lady turned around and said, \u201cWhat?\u201d We were all confused, and she asked, \u201cDo I know you?\u201d We were like, \u201cNo\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
I mean, why would we know this random person in Hawaii? We\u2019re just on vacation. She said, \u201cYou called my name.\u201d What, no, we totally didn\u2019t. Her name was Sunny Rain.<\/p>\n
Out of all the phrases my dad could have chosen, he accidentally said the exact name of a stranger standing nearby. The look on her face was every bit as confused as ours.<\/p>\n
12.
\nAbout 25 years ago, my friend Alan came over unexpectedly. As it turns out, it was his birthday, and I had forgotten it. As a joke, I went over to my bookshelf and grabbed the first book I saw. I had gotten this book at a yard sale a few years before.<\/p>\n
I handed it to my friend and said, \u201cHappy Birthday!\u201d My friend opened the book and on the first page was a handwritten note to some unknown person. It said, \u201cHappy Birthday John (made up name). February 7, 1992.\u201d February 7th is my friend\u2019s birthday\u2026<\/p>\n
We just stood there staring at the inscription. Out of all the books on the shelf, I grabbed that one. Out of all the possible dates someone could have written decades earlier, it matched his birthday exactly. It was supposed to be a joke gift, yet somehow it became the most memorable present I could have given him.<\/p>\n
Sometimes coincidence feels so precise, so perfectly timed, that it becomes difficult to dismiss.
