There was once a very successful farmer from Texas who began developing an obsession with his ancestry. The more he uncovered, the deeper his curiosity grew. Old records, faded photographs, and half-forgotten stories eventually led him across the ocean to a tiny town tucked away in the green countryside of Ireland. And to his amazement, the trail revealed something unexpected: generations of his family had been farmers there too.<\/p>\n
The discovery gnawed at him for weeks.<\/p>\n
Finally, unable to resist any longer, he packed his bags, boarded a flight, and headed for Ireland, determined to see the place where his bloodline had begun. After landing in Dublin and driving through winding roads lined with ancient stone walls and rolling hills, he stopped at an old countryside pub to rest, grab a drink, and ask around about the family name.<\/p>\n
The pub was dimly lit, warm with conversation, and thick with the smell of turf smoke and ale. A few locals glanced at the Texan as he walked in, boots echoing against the wooden floorboards. He settled onto a stool at the bar, ordered a pint, and struck up a conversation with an older Irishman seated beside him.<\/p>\n
After hearing the Texan explain his journey and the search for distant relatives, the Irishman raised an eyebrow and chuckled softly.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell now,\u201d he said, swirling the foam in his glass, \u201cI can\u2019t say I\u2019ve heard your family name before. But I\u2019m a farmer myself. Tell me this\u2026 what\u2019s it like farming in Texas?\u201d<\/p>\n
The Texan leaned back proudly, clearly waiting for that question.<\/p>\n
\u201cGladly,\u201d he said. \u201cFarming in Texas has been mighty good to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
He paused just long enough to make sure the entire bar was listening.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you started driving west across my land first thing in the morning, you could drive all day before reaching the end of my property. Then if you turned around the next day and drove east, you still wouldn\u2019t reach the far end before nightfall. Same thing north and south. You could drive in any direction from sunrise to sunset and never leave my farmland.\u201d<\/p>\n
For a moment, the pub fell silent.<\/p>\n
A few men exchanged glances. Someone near the fireplace whistled under his breath.<\/p>\n
Then the Irishman nodded sympathetically and took another sip of his drink.<\/p>\n
\u201cAhh,\u201d he said slowly, \u201cI know exactly what you mean.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Texan smiled proudly.<\/p>\n
The Irishman sighed. \u201cI had a tractor like that once myself.\u201d<\/p>\n
The pub erupted in laughter so suddenly that the Texan nearly spilled his pint.<\/p>\n
It was Joe\u2019s first time in the big city.<\/p>\n
Back home, he was used to gravel roads, wandering livestock, and the occasional tractor causing a traffic jam. But this place? This was chaos wrapped in concrete. Towering buildings boxed in the streets like canyon walls, neon lights flashed everywhere, and every driver seemed angry at the existence of every other driver.<\/p>\n
Joe gripped the steering wheel tightly as he rolled toward a crowded intersection, trying desperately not to look lost.<\/p>\n
Then the traffic light ahead turned red.<\/p>\n
Joe stopped immediately.<\/p>\n
He waited.<\/p>\n
The light changed to green.<\/p>\n
Still, Joe didn\u2019t move.<\/p>\n
Cars behind him began honking almost instantly, but he ignored them. His eyes remained fixed on the glowing signal ahead as though it were some sort of trap.<\/p>\n
The light turned yellow.<\/p>\n
Then red again.<\/p>\n
Then green once more.<\/p>\n
Still, Joe remained frozen in place, sweating lightly now as impatient drivers leaned on their horns with increasing fury. A delivery truck driver shouted something unintelligible out his window. A taxi nearly mounted the curb trying to get around him.<\/p>\n
By the fourth cycle of the light, a traffic officer standing nearby had finally had enough.<\/p>\n
Dodging traffic and muttering under his breath, the officer marched over and tapped sharply on Joe\u2019s window.<\/p>\n
Joe rolled it down cautiously.<\/p>\n
The officer forced a polite smile. \u201cSir,\u201d he asked, trying to remain calm over the symphony of honking behind him, \u201cis there some sort of problem?\u201d<\/p>\n
Joe looked nervously at the light. \u201cWell\u2026 I\u2019m just waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWaiting for what?\u201d<\/p>\n
Joe lowered his voice. \u201cFor one of the other colors to come up.\u201d<\/p>\n
The officer blinked.<\/p>\n
Joe pointed carefully at the signal. \u201cIt\u2019s been red, yellow, green\u2026 red, yellow, green\u2026 over and over. Don\u2019t you folks have any other colors around here?\u201d<\/p>\n
The officer stared at him for two full seconds before laughing so hard he had to step away from the car.<\/p>\n
A blonde team, a brunette team, and a redhead team were all hired by the Telephone Company to install new telephone poles across a rural county.<\/p>\n
The contractor running the project was strict, competitive, and obsessed with productivity. Before sending the crews out on the first morning, he warned them all the same way:<\/p>\n
\u201cI want results. Fast results. By sundown, I expect numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The crews headed out in different directions.<\/p>\n
By evening, the contractor gathered the teams together to compare progress.<\/p>\n
The brunette team proudly reported they had installed 30 poles.<\/p>\n
The redhead team smirked and announced they had installed 37.<\/p>\n
Then everyone turned toward the blonde team.<\/p>\n
Their foreman smiled proudly. \u201cWe installed 7.\u201d<\/p>\n
The contractor nearly exploded.<\/p>\n
\u201cSeven?!\u201d he shouted. \u201cThe others did more than four times your work! What in the world were you people doing all day?\u201d<\/p>\n
The blonde foreman folded her arms defensively.<\/p>\n
\u201cHey, don\u2019t blame us,\u201d she snapped. \u201cWe saw what the other teams were doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
The contractor glared. \u201cAnd?\u201d<\/p>\n
She pointed accusingly toward the other crews.<\/p>\n
