The blonde smiles and says, \u201cShow me your most expensive ring.\u201d<\/p>\n

The clerk hesitates, then glances at the old man. He gives a calm little nod.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlright,\u201d the clerk says, pulling out a ring. \u201cThis one is $50,000.\u201d<\/p>\n

She shrugs. \u201cIt\u2019s cute\u2026 but I want something nicer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The clerk looks again. The old man nods once more.<\/p>\n

With a deep breath, the clerk brings out another ring. \u201cThis is one of our finest\u2014$300,000.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her eyes light up. \u201cPerfect. I\u2019ll take it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The old man casually writes a check.<\/p>\n

The clerk clears his throat. \u201cSir, for an amount this large, it\u2019ll take three days to process. Please come back Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monday morning\u2026 the old man walks in alone.<\/p>\n

The clerk looks uncomfortable. \u201cSir\u2026 I\u2019m afraid the check didn\u2019t clear.\u201d<\/p>\n
