An old man named Jeremy decided to travel to New York from Texas to meet with his daughter at a 5-star hotel. He had traveled for over a day, as he had no means of buying a plane ticket after spending his money on an overnight stay at the hotel that he was in.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t pick just any hotel to stay in. He was in one of Manhattan\u2019s most luxurious hotels, where diplomats, celebrities, and other influential people usually stayed.<\/p>\n

While sitting in the lobby, the man stood out like a sore thumb.<\/p>\n

Guests and staff alike shot him looks as if to ask him what he was doing in the hotel. Some guests even walked over to the reception to complain about the old man being there.<\/p>\n

The tension in the room slowly thickened, whispers spreading like wildfire, until it felt as though every eye in the lobby was quietly demanding the same thing\u2014his removal.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave you downgraded your security?<\/p>\n

How can you just let anybody in here?\u201d a man asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hotel lobby usually smells divine, but today, it smells like a dumpster,\u201d his wife added.<\/p>\n

The hotel receptionist decided to approach Jeremy to ask him to leave after hearing complaints from hotel patrons. \u201cSir, you are distracting our guests. Could you please leave the hotel premises and wait somewhere else?\u201d she asked him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I have to wait right here.<\/p>\n

I have a meeting with my daughter,\u201d the old man replied, gripping his worn bag a little tighter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure your daughter wouldn\u2019t mind you waiting somewhere else. You must leave right away, or I\u2019m asking security to escort you out,\u201d the receptionist said again, growing impatient.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am waiting for my daughter. She works here,\u201d Jeremy replied, his voice trembling\u2014not from fear, but from urgency.<\/p>\n

The woman scoffed, shaking her head.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir, we\u2019ve heard stories like that countless times. Please don\u2019t make up such an absurd story. What is your daughter\u2019s name?\u201d she asked him.<\/p>\n

When the old man replied, her eyes widened\u2014but only for a second.<\/p>\n

Jeremy had insisted that he was at the hotel because of their director, Samantha Jennings.<\/p>\n

For a brief moment, doubt flickered across her face\u2026 then pride took over.<\/p>\n

His voice echoed through the marble lobby\u2026 but no one stepped forward.<\/p>\n

However, the security had already re-entered the hotel and warned Jeremy not to return or the NYPD would get him.<\/p>\n

Banned from entering the hotel, Jeremy lost all hope and cried. All he wanted was to see his daughter, yet the cruel staff chose to kick him out.<\/p>\n

That same night, Samantha Jennings arrived at the hotel. The receptionist told her that a man had attempted to wait for her, claiming to be her father.<\/p>\n

Samantha then remembered all the times she asked her late mom about her dad, hoping that she would introduce him to her one day. \u201cCould it be him?\u201d she thought to herself.<\/p>\n

A strange uneasiness settled in her chest\u2014the kind that doesn\u2019t let you ignore it.<\/p>\n

Something about the timing\u2026 the description\u2026 it all felt too real to dismiss.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to kick him out because the other hotel patrons complained about his smell. The security guards might have a clue where he went,\u201d the receptionist told her.<\/p>\n

For the first time, Samantha\u2019s expression hardened.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat man might have been my father,\u201d she said quietly.<\/p>\n

The room fell silent.<\/p>\n

Samantha searched the entire night with the help of security. \u201cHe was wearing a black shirt, and a distinct purple rain jacket,\u201d the head of security told her.<\/p>\n

With that description, Samantha drove her car around the streets of Manhattan, hoping to find the man who claimed to be her dad.<\/p>\n

Street after street, hour after hour\u2026 and still nothing.<\/p>\n

As the sun was about to rise, they found an old man wearing a black shirt and a purple rain jacket lying down on a bench. He was awake but looked deep in thought.<\/p>\n

A female voice interrupted his musings. \u201cExcuse me sir,\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s cold out. Please, get inside the car.\u201d<\/p>\n

Surprised, Jeremy looked up at the woman, only to realize that it was Samantha herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs it you, my dear daughter?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sorry, I tried waiting at your hotel, but they sent me out. I have no phone, so I just walked around the area and found myself here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s first head back to the hotel. You must be hungry,\u201d Samantha said as soon as Jeremy entered her car.<\/p>\n

Jeremy decided to show Samantha some papers when they were settled at the lobby cafe.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy name is Jeremy Hopkins. Your mom and I were together for ten years until you were about six months old. At the time, I was offered a job in Europe to work in a flour mill company.<\/p>\n

The pay was good, so I decided to take the job,\u201d he explained, showing the photo of him with Samantha\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I was there, I was blinded by that romantic European life. I told your mom I wasn\u2019t coming back and that we should get a divorce,\u201d Jeremy told his daughter. \u201cIt was the worst mistake of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the flour mill company I worked for closed down a couple of years ago, I contacted your mother.<\/p>\n

I asked if it was too late to start over, and she said it was. I asked her if I could see you so that I could meet my daughter again, and she simply responded that we would meet again at the right time,\u201d Jeremy said to Samantha, who was listening with all ears.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore your mother died a month ago, she wrote me a letter. She knew where she could find me, and I received the letter.<\/p>\n

She shared that you were my daughter \u2013 a successful businesswoman who ran one of the best hotels in Manhattan. I couldn\u2019t be more proud,\u201d Jeremy told her while handing her a small photo album.<\/p>\n

As Samantha browsed through the photo album, she saw photos of herself, the same that she had in her album at home. This time, it was Samantha\u2019s turn to talk.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would always ask mom where my dad was, but she could never answer me. I had assumed you were dead,\u201d she revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always longed to meet my dad, but I thought it was a hopeless case because mom didn\u2019t like talking about you. I didn\u2019t know she had contacted you before she died,\u201d Samantha said, tears streaming down her face.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was listening after all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy to see you, Samantha. I don\u2019t expect you to forgive me for leaving you, but I went here to greet you a happy birthday. Last night, I booked a room here, but they wouldn\u2019t honor the hotel reservation slip I was trying to show them when I was sent away.<\/p>\n

Maybe we can celebrate together next time,\u201d Jeremy said, holding his daughter\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n

Samantha shook her head. \u201cI forgive you, dad. You had your reasons back then.<\/p>\n

I would love to get to know you and spend more time with you,\u201d she said, squeezing her dad\u2019s hand in return.<\/p>\n

After talking some more, Samantha and Jeremy walked towards the reception area, where she scolded the woman for kicking her father out. \u201cWe are an inclusive hotel! We don\u2019t discriminate against customers based on how they look,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The receptionist\u2019s face turned pale as the reality sank in.<\/p>\n

The same man she had humiliated\u2026 was the father of the woman who ran everything.<\/p>\n

The woman apologized profusely after realizing she had messed up.<\/p>\n

She apologized that the man was denied his hotel reservation, forcing him to sleep on the streets. To make up for her blunder, she re-issued his room reservation and gave him a complimentary upgrade to the presidential suite.<\/p>\n

That weekend, Samantha and Jeremy celebrated her birthday together. They toured New York, ate at delicious restaurants, and stayed at the presidential suite together, where they slowly built on their relationship.<\/p>\n

In the end, Samantha found out that Jeremy lived alone in Texas, so she offered to take him in so that she could take care of him.<\/p>\n
