\u201cDon\u2019t you dare talk about my son that way!\u201d More sharply than I had intended, my voice broke through the stillness.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll do whatever I want, Hattie.\u201d With a smug expression, Jessica placed her hands on her hips. \u201cAnd there\u2019s nothing either of you can do about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cActually,\u201d Jessica went on. \u201cThe two of you had best hurry and clear your stuff off MY lawn, before I call the cops and have them arrest you both.\u201d<\/p>\n

I watched in numbness as Matt confronted Jessica. It was all very confusing! Even Dad hadn\u2019t been fond of Jessica! I took out my phone, shook my hands, and made a fast call to Dad\u2019s attorney.<\/p>\n
His tone was soothing, collected, and comforting. \u201cHattie? I was about to give you a call.\u201d<\/p>\n
