Amid the celebrations, his grandson reveals the centenarian is \u201cvery limited in what he can do,\u201d and that this \u201cjourney\u201d is \u201cone\u201d he can only experience at \u201cthe very end.\u201d<\/p>\n
On October 1, family and friends of Jimmy Carter gathered in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, to celebrate his 100th<\/sup> birthday, the first without his wife of 77 years.<\/p>\n \u201cWe know this is the first birthday without Rosalynn. It\u2019s bittersweet, but we also know she\u2019s always with you,\u201d President\u00a0Joe Biden<\/a>\u00a0says in a birthday message to his longtime friend. \u201cShe\u2019s in your heart; she\u2019ll never go away. She may be gone, but she\u2019s always going to be with you. She\u2019s always there, and I know you know that.\u201d<\/p>\n The former first lady, also from Plains, died November 19 at age 96. Carter \u2013 who uses a wheelchair for mobility \u2013 is rarely seen but did appear at his late wife\u2019s memorial service.<\/p>\n
