A Fond Farewell to a Local Weather Legend<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of renowned Connecticut meteorologist Geoff Fox, who died at the age of 75 after a prolonged battle with cancer.<\/p>\n

\n

Early Life & Career Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n

Born July 26, 1950, in Flushing, Queens, Geoff Fox earned a communications degree and later a master\u2019s in broadcast meteorology.
He began his meteorology career in radio, worked in several markets, and then joined WTNH in New Haven in May 1984. There, he became a familiar and trusted presence for hundreds of thousands of Connecticut viewers.
During his time at WTNH, his work included covering major storms, such as Hurricane Gloria in 1985, Hurricane Bob in 1991, and the Blizzard of 1993\u2014earning him respect for both his forecasting skill and his composure on the air.<\/p>\n

\n

His Battle with Cancer<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fox\u2019s health struggles became public in 2016, when he was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
He underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, and in 2017 was declared cancer-free\u2014only for the disease to return in September 2025 with metastases in his liver, lungs and pancreas.
At that point, he chose home-based hospice care, stating he was \u201ctoo weak for chemo or any treatment for these new life-sized perils.\u201d
His wife, Helaine Fox, announced his passing in November 2025, saying he \u201clost his battle\u2026 passed away in his sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n

Legacy & Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Over nearly three decades at WTNH, Fox earned seven Emmy Awards and made weather-reporting feel personal, accessible and even affectionate for viewers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Colleagues describe him as generous with his time, a mentor to many younger broadcasters, and someone who genuinely connected with his audience.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    In his own words, he reflected: \u201cYou afforded me an unbelievable life\u2026 I am very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    True to his wish, his wife confirmed he would be cremated without fanfare\u2014an indication of his quiet humility despite his public prominence.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
