But instead of stepping up, Mike stepped out. He cheated, abandoned them both, and even cut ties with me because I chose to support Jane.<\/p>\n

Months later, I learned he was remarrying. Of course, no invitation came my way. But I found out the date and address of the ceremony. And I knew what I had to do.<\/p>\n

I packed a small bag and took the three-hour train to the vineyard where his \u201cfresh start\u201d was happening.<\/p>\n

The venue looked like something out of a glossy magazine\u2014rows of white chairs, fairy lights strung like stars, and a barn that cost more than my first home. Guests in pastel dresses and crisp suits mingled, laughter spilling across the vines.<\/p>\n

I stood hidden behind a hedge, not in sequins or silk but in a plain blouse, a long skirt, and a cardigan I\u2019d owned since Mike was in high school. I wasn\u2019t there to impress. I was there with Tommy.<\/p>\n

I held up a photo: newborn Tommy, tiny and fragile, hooked to hospital tubes, Jane\u2019s exhausted face glowing with love. The bride\u2019s lips trembled.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never told me you had a son,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n

The weight of the truth shattered the moment. Guests whispered. The bride lowered her bouquet, her eyes filling with tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you,\u201d she said to me, and walked away\u2014leaving Mike stranded at the altar, his lies exposed.<\/p>\n
